Abstract

The paper describes operation and results of site characterisation activities of areas subjected to Seveso accident (10 July 1976) and laying along the new Pedemontana Lombarda motorway route. Characterisation plan approved by Regione Lombardia is described together with the main achievements obtained. 214 sampling points have been located and 609 samples have been extracted in May-June 2016 for subsequent analysis. 387 samples have been brought to certified laboratories for dioxin analysis (PCDD-PCDF as I-TEQ) with the following results: 68 samples exceed the residential/park threshold concentration only (41 in top-soil samples, 23 in intermediate samples and 4 in deep samples) and 5 samples exceed also the commercial/industrial threshold concentration (all in top-soil samples).
