Abstract

The project idea is developed from some considerations on the obstacles that limit the diffusion of EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme - EC Reg. n.1221/09), especially among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs): lack of government incentives and feedback of the market, difficulties in environmental regulation knowledge, cost of implementation and maintenance, management gap between “ordinary” and “evolved” management needed to obtain EMAS registration. The aim of the project is to promote the integration of EMAS - and other certification systems- in EU legislation in the member states and facilitating the implementation for enterprises: deleting or reducing costs and simplifying procedures to encourage the adoption of a voluntary environmental certification.
