Abstract

The water quality of rivers and lakes is sometimes threatened by anthropogenic activities. In fact, water bodies have always been among the main receptors for the residues of the most diverse activities. The various pressures also include those due to the introduction of civil wastewater. In order to reduce the impacts and avoid ecological imbalances on water bodies, purification plants have been created, capable of discharging the wastewater into the receiving waterbody after the necessary secondary and tertiary treatments, without thus compromising the self-purifying capacity of running water.

In order for the treatment plants, to be effective in their action, it is important that the wastewater conveyed to them by the sewage system conforms to the project flow rate and that the splitting of the networks is effective.

This work collects the data of years of reconnaissance of sewage discharges carried out in Trentino, aimed at identifying the criticalities in the networks and in connections of civil users: the study highlights the existence, in different locations, of interference between the white and black sewerage. Moreover a not insignificant percentage of incorrect connections by users, that risk affecting the efficiency of the purification systems, has been identified
