WEEE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN LOMBARDIA. PART II – LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT

Abstract

The present study investigates the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) management system in Lombardia Region (Italy) by applying the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology. The analysed system includes the collection of the waste, its transport to the collection platform, the first treatment of the waste in specific plants and the subsequent treatment of the separated components in recycling/disposal final plants.

Results show that the recovery of WEEE categories is advantageous for the environment and the human health, because of the recovery of metals, as well as of the plastic and glass fractions.
