Abstract

Among the impacts that fall on the environment, sporting events, with a high level of media and sport resonance, determine the generation of a large quantity of waste, in a context that often involves both urban and natural spaces. The correct management of this flow represents an interesting challenge in relation to several factors: the particularly dynamic circumstances in which it is implemented, the potential quantity of recyclable waste that can be collected and the limitation of the phenomenon of littering that can be realized. It is precisely in this area that E.R.I.C.A. soc. coop. developed, in recent years, a positive experience of sustainable management, with the achievement of excellent results in the implementation of innovative solutions, suitable for contexts such as the Giro d'Italia, in which the separated collection is active in the various stages, through the Ride Green project in collaboration with RCS Sport, and competitions such as the Tot Dret in the Tor Des Géants and the Grand Trail di Courmayeur, organized by Valle d'Aosta Trailers (VDA Trailers) and in which an environmental sustainability project was introduced, EcoLoTor, including a waste tracking system and abandonment monitoring.
